Silver Wholesale Price: How Wholesale Silver Jewellery Is Priced in India

Silver wholesale price is not a single number. It moves with the day’s silver rate, then changes again with purity, weight, design work and GST. That is why two quotes for the “same” piece can differ. This guide explains each part of the price, so you can compare quotes properly and order with confidence. It comes from Hari Silvears, a Madurai silver manufacturer and wholesaler trading since 1963.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • A wholesale quote is silver value (rate x weight), plus making charges, finishing and GST.
  • The base silver rate changes daily, so a quote only makes sense with a date and a validity window.
  • Purity sets the metal cost. 925 (92.5% pure) is the most common grade for jewellery.

Compare quotes on the same purity, the same weight basis and the same inclusions.

What Goes Into a Silver Wholesale Price

Four parts of a silver wholesale price: silver value, making charges, extras and GST

Every wholesale quote for silver jewellery is built from the same four parts. Suppliers present them differently, and that is where confusion starts.

Part

What it means

What to ask

Silver value

The weight of the piece multiplied by the silver rate for its purity.

Is the rate fixed for today, and until when does the quote hold?

Making charges

The cost of design, casting, assembly and finishing, charged per gram or as a percentage.

Is it per gram or a percentage, and does it change with volume?

Extras

Stone setting, oxidised or antique finish, plating, engraving or special packaging.

Which finishes are included in the quoted price?

GST

Tax added to the invoice.

Is the quote inclusive or exclusive of GST?

Every Hari Silvears wholesale order carries a GST-compliant invoice, so each part of the price is visible.

Why the Silver Wholesale Rate Changes Every Day

Silver is traded as a commodity, so its price moves through the day and from one day to the next. In India, the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) publishes daily opening and closing rates for 999 silver per kilogram, and states that its rates exclude GST and making charges. That is the starting point for a wholesaler’s quote, not the final figure.

This is also why a search for the silver wholesale price today can only give you a market reference. A real quote depends on your products, their weight and your quantity. At Hari Silvears, wholesale quotes are calculated against current rates when you confirm the order, which keeps the process transparent for every buyer.

Ask any supplier how long a quote stays valid. With a moving rate, a quote without a validity window is hard to compare.

How Silver Purity Changes Your Quote

Purity decides how much pure silver you are paying for. Under the revised BIS standard IS 2112:2025, silver jewellery and articles can be hallmarked in seven grades: 800, 835, 925, 958, 970, 990 and 999.

A 925 grade means 925 parts pure silver in 1,000, or 92.5%. That is why 925 and 92.5 mean the same thing. It is the grade most jewellery uses, because the added alloy gives strength for daily wear.

GradePurityTypical use
80080%Lower-purity articles and utensils
92592.50%Sterling silver, most jewellery
99999.90%Fine silver, coins and bars

A hallmarked piece carries three marks: the BIS standard mark with the word SILVER, the purity grade and a six-digit HUID code. Silver hallmarking in India has been voluntary since 1 September 2025, so a wholesale buyer should always ask what purity is being supplied and whether the pieces are hallmarked.

Our guide on how to read a silver hallmark and check purity walks through the marks step by step.

What Drives the Price of Each Jewellery Type

Silver rings, chains, bracelets, earrings and anklets arranged on dark fabric

The same silver rate applies across the range, but each product type weighs differently and takes different work. This is what moves the price:

Product
Main price drivers
Silver Rings
Low weight, so making charges and finish matter most.
Silver Chains
Weight and pattern. Complex weaves take longer to make.
Silver Bracelets
Heavier pieces, so the silver rate carries more of the price.
Silver Earrings
Small weight; design detail and fastenings drive the cost.
Silver Anklets
Weight and pattern. A long-standing strength of our Madurai workshop.
Silver Articles
Weight and craftsmanship. Antique finishes add finishing work.

How to Choose a Silver Wholesaler: 7 Checks Before a Bulk Order

A good price means little if the supplier cannot deliver the same quality twice. Run through these checks first:

  1. Manufacturer or trader? A manufacturer controls design, casting and finishing, which helps with pricing and custom work.
  2. Purity in writing. Ask for the purity grade and hallmark details of what you will receive.
  3. Quote basis. Confirm the weight basis (gross or net), the making-charge basis and the GST treatment.
  4. Sample first. Order a small sample before a large run.
  5. Minimum order. Check the MOQ. Hari Silvears does not enforce a strict minimum order quantity, so smaller shops can start small.
  6. Range and repeat supply. One supplier covering rings, chains, anklets and articles saves you managing several vendors.
  7. Track record. Look at how long the supplier has traded and what verified customers say. Hari Silvears has traded since 1963 and has 137 Google reviews.

Pricing Your Stock for Retail

Once you have a wholesale quote, work backwards from your shelf price. Add your own costs (display, packaging, staff, shop rent), then check what margin is left at the price your customers expect. Because the silver rate moves, many retailers re-check their price tags when they reorder instead of repricing every day. Buying direct from a manufacturer removes trader mark-ups from the chain, which helps protect that margin.

How Hari Silvears Quotes a Wholesale Order

  1. Share your requirement. Product types, quantities and any purity preference.
  2. Receive a quotation. Pricing based on your selected products and quantity, at current rates.
  3. Choose your designs. Pick from the current catalogue or discuss a custom design.
  4. Confirm and book. Through our dedicated bulk booking line.
  5. Quality check and packing. Every item is checked and packed for bulk dispatch.
  6. Delivery or pickup. To suit your business.

Custom orders are discussed directly with our team, because scope depends on the product and order size.

Silver Wholesale Price: Common Questions

What is the silver wholesale price per gram today?

It changes daily with the market, so no fixed figure stays accurate. IBJA publishes daily benchmark silver rates, which exclude GST and making charges. For a price on your own products, send us your list and quantities and we will quote at current rates.

No. The market rate is the base. A wholesale quote adds making charges, finishing and GST, and varies with purity and order size.

Practice varies. Some suppliers show making charges as a separate line; others fold them into a per-gram rate. Ask your supplier to state which, so you can compare like with like.

None. Both describe sterling silver: 92.5% pure silver, written as 925 parts per 1,000.

Hari Silvears does not enforce a strict minimum order quantity, so both small retailers and large distributors can order what their business needs.
